Experienced Indian spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his feelings when the Indian cricket team received a warm welcome upon returning home after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. The team, wearing blue, arrived in Delhi on Thursday, July 4, after traveling from Barbados on a special charter plane.
The World Cup winners were greeted enthusiastically by supporters at both the airport and their hotel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited the whole team for a special breakfast meeting, after which they went to Mumbai for a victory parade on an open bus.
Ashwin said that the enthusiastic welcome from the fans has deeply touched him, and he feels very proud of the team’s success.
A large crowd of fans came together in Mumbai to celebrate India’s victory. Many people from different parts of the city went to Marine Drive to see their favorite players in person, which was similar to how Argentina celebrated after winning the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
The whole Indian team was very happy as they took turns to take pictures with the World Cup Trophy on the team bus, which made the fans very excited. In a nice moment, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma held the trophy together and lifted it up for the fans who had always supported the Indian team, even when they hadn’t won a big title in the past 11 years.
Before winning the recent T20 World Cup, India’s last win in an ICC Trophy was in 2013 when MS Dhoni led a young team to victory in the Champions Trophy in England. Since then, the team made it to the knockout stages of all the ICC events, except for the T20 World Cup in 2022, but they couldn’t win the title, losing five finals. Finally, the losing streak ended when India beat South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup in 2024 in Barbados.
