Ravi Shastri mercilessly roasts Michael Vaughan over India-oriented T20 World Cup scheduling remark

Former all-rounder Ravi Shastri has strongly criticized Michael Vaughan for his remarks regarding India’s scheduling during the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. Vaughan had suggested on various platforms that India benefitted from scheduling favors, specifically pointing out that India’s semi-final venue in Guyana was predetermined regardless of their Super Eight table finish. India’s match in Guyana saw Rohit Sharma’s team crush defending champions England by 68 runs, securing their place in the final.

Michael Vaughan’s criticism

Vaughan expressed his dissatisfaction with the scheduling, stating that it was unfair for only India to have a fixed semi-final venue. He believed this gave India an undue advantage over other teams. Vaughan’s comments were perceived as an attempt to question the integrity of the tournament’s arrangements and India’s dominant performance.

Ravi Shastri’s response to Vaughan

In an interview with Times Now, Shastri responded to Vaughan’s comments with a dismissive tone. Shastri emphasized that Vaughan’s opinions hold little importance in India and suggested that Vaughan should focus on addressing the shortcomings of the England team, particularly their performance in the semi-final. He highlighted India’s track record of success in international tournaments, noting that India has won four World Cups compared to England’s two. Shastri also pointed out that Vaughan, despite his stature in cricket, has never won a World Cup himself, implying that Vaughan’s criticisms lack credibility.

“Michael can say what he wants. Nobody in India cares. Let him sort out the England team first. He should give advice on what happened to the England team in the semifinal. India are used to lifting Cups. I know England have won twice, but India have won four times. I don’t think Michael’s lifted a Cup ever. So think twice. He is a colleague of mine, but that’s my answer to him,” Shastri said.

India’s historic victory in T20 World Cup

India’s triumph in the 2024 edition was a landmark achievement. They defeated South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final, securing their second T20 World Cup title. This victory was significant not only because of the title but also because India became the first team to go unbeaten throughout the tournament while winning a T20 World Cup. This historic run further solidified India’s reputation as a powerhouse in international cricket, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure and maintain consistency against top-tier competition.
