It’s been almost a year since Raw debuted on Netflix on January 6, 2025. This 10-year deal is worth $5 billion to the TKO-owned company. WWE debuted on Netflix with much buzz surrounding an edgier product. However, WWE has toned down the violence, taken a left turn on their creative, and barely cracked the top 10 of Netflix’s most-watched shows. Not to mention, they’ve disappointed their other new partners, ESPN, due to lackluster shows. The pressure is on for the Raw on Netflix 1-year anniversary show to be stellar. Now, there are rumors circulating about a huge name showing up at this milestone event.
CM Punk vs. Bron Breakker Set for Raw on Netflix 1-Year Anniversary
It’s been a tough week for CM Punk. As the WWE World Champion mourns the loss of his beloved dog, Larry, The Second City Saint also took the L during War Games. CM Punk went down in defeat when a hooded man gave him a Stomp, costing Punk’s team the match.
With CM Punk down and out, The Vision is ready to pick the bones, namely, Bron Breakker. In fact, The Unpredictable Badass has a bone to pick with CM Punk. The Voice of the Voiceless almost broke Rick Steiner’s son’s neck during War Games. Bron Breakker suffered a weird landing while taking a Doomsday Device from CM Punk and Cody Rhodes.
Ironically, this is the exact move that broke JJ Dillon’s shoulder in the original War Games Match in 1987. Also, Bron Breakker’s dad broke Buff Bagwell’s neck doing a Bulldog version of the same move.
Nonetheless, Bron Breakker got his revenge on CM Punk that night. After The Stomp took Punk out, Bron Breakker split The Second City Saint in half with a Spear to secure the victory for his team.
CM Punk has been deemed medically unable to wrestle until January 5, 2025. That will be the night of the Netflix on Raw 1-year anniversary show. With CM Punk being a prominent reason for the Netflix-WWE deal, it only makes sense that he will return on that show.
It’s been made official that CM Punk will defend the World Title against Bron Breakker during the 1-year anniversary of Raw on Netflix. However, CM Punk isn’t the only big-name rumored to return on the milestone show.
Chris Jericho to Return on 1st Raw of 2025?
Is it time to get the millennium clock going? With Chris Jericho’s AEW contract expiring in December 2024, it’s believed that the former WWE World Champion will be a free agent by the New Year.
As we’ve reported here, Chris Jericho is believed to be WWE-bound. Since our last report, sources have stated that WWE approached Chris Jericho about a retirement storyline. This marketing approach is much like WWE did with Goldberg and John Cena did this year.
Initial reports speculated that Chris Jericho would be a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia. However, surprise entrants are expected during the 30-Man Battle Royal, and Chris Jericho likes to try things differently.
Besides, Chris Jericho was already a surprise entrant when he returned to WWE in 2013. Adding fuel to this return, WWE just added this specific return to their website 1 day ago.
In Chris Jericho’s autobiography, the wrestling legend noted that he doesn’t like to do the same thing twice. So, the chances of him returning at a Royal Rumble are lower than many would expect. Kicking off the New Year by crashing Raw on Netflix’s 1-year anniversary show would be more of the Ayatollah of Rock N Rollah’s style.
With the Y2J persona, it would make sense for a new era of WWE to have a shocking appearance from Chris Jericho. While Y2J is most likely on his way back, it remains to be seen who he will compete against when he returns.
