A few reports have claimed Rohit might move to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025 and can also become their leader for the next seasons.
Rohit Sharma’s future with Mumbai Indians (MI) has been a major talking point since the retention rules for the IPL 2025 auction have been announced. Last year, MI removed their most successful IPL captain from the captaincy position in a bizarre fashion to accommodate Hardik Pandya as a leader.
The whole captaincy swap scenario wasn’t smooth enough and reports about rifts inside the dressing room were aplenty throughout IPL 2024. A few on-field events like Hardik asking Rohit to go to the boundary line during fielding caught ample attention.
Hence, there have been high speculations that Rohit might leave the franchise ahead of the next season. Maybe he is unhappy with the way things changed inside the camp, and he might also be the captain of any other side he goes to.

A few reports have claimed Rohit might move to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025 and can also become their leader for the next seasons. If it happens, the move will be the biggest ever in the league’s history.
AB de Villiers delivers his verdict on Rohit Sharma’s move to RCB
Referencing Rohit’s conversation with Abhishek Nayar where his comments were deemed to suggest his stint with MI coming to an end, AB de Villiers stated he laughed at that statement. On his YouTube channel, he said Rohit’s move to RCB will be bigger than Hardik’s homecoming to MI.
“I almost laughed at the Rohit comment. That will be quite a story if Rohit moves from Mumbai Indians to RCB. Wow! Imagine the headlines. It will be bigger than Hardik Pandya’s move. He moved from Gujarat Titans back to Mumbai, which although wasn’t big a surprise. But if Rohit moves from Mumbai to join his rivals in RCB…oh my god! I don’t think there is an option there. I don’t see a possibility of MI leaving Rohit. I will give that zero or 0.1 per cent chance.”
Rohit Sharma has been an integral member of MI for a number of years now. He has led them to five IPL titles and is the joint-most successful leader in the league.
Maybe the captaincy swap with Pandya could have been handled better, for things happened too quickly. It will be interesting to see whether MI manage to retain Rohit or let him go in the mega auction because they have plenty of quality options in the squad.
