KL Rahul’s entry into the IPL 2025 auction pool can spark a bidding war.
While there were initial reports of KL Rahul and Lucknow Super Giants parting ways, it is now known that the dynamic India batter was actually set to get the top retention offer but he turned it down citing “professional and personal reasons”.
Earlier in August, KL Rahul had met LSG owner Sanji Goenka which sparked rumours that he would stay back at the franchise following a very public fallout between the duo during last season (IPL 2024).
Despite all the efforts, it eventually emerged that LSG and Rahul were set to part ways.
Speaking about the development, a reliable source told TOI, “LSG were ready to offer top retention bracket to Rahul, but Rahul eventually decided to move on due to personal and professional reasons”.

With Rahul now set to enter the IPL 2025 auction pool, he is expected to spark a bidding war amongst franchises with a lot of teams in search for an Indian player who can take over captaincy responsibilities.
Rahul has captained LSG for three seasons, taking them to the playoffs twice and finishing at the seventh place last season.
Rahul, who did not participate in India’s T20 World Cup triumph in June, however, brings in significant experience to the format, having played 72 T20 internationals and amassed 2,265 runs with an average of 37.75.
Speaking about LSG’s retentions, Nicholas Pooran will be the franchise’s top retention, along with pace sensation Mayank Yadav and spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Additionally, LSG will retain Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni as uncapped players. The specifics regarding the sequence of their retention and their respective values are yet to be known.
