Red Sox Fans Demand John Henry Sale

Liverpool’s season is falling apart, and it is not faring any better across the Atlantic for Fenway Sports Group, with Boston Red Sox fans calling for them to sell up.

The Red Sox are one of the MLB’s most iconic franchises, winning the joint-third most World Series (nine), of which FSG have overseen four.

John Henry bought the Boston side in 2002, but recent years has seen opposition to FSG’s ownership grow due to a lack of investment and success, with two post-season wins in the last seven seasons.

The new season got underway at the end of March and the Red Sox are already 2-7, sitting last place in the AL East after their latest series loss to the San Diego Padres.

A section of fans could be heard chanting, “Sell the team” at a quiet Fenway Park on the live broadcast, in the latest show of protest against FSG in Boston, which has been echoed on social media.

On NESN‘s broadcast, Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow addressed the team’s slow start to the season, and it will resonate with Liverpool fans.

He said: “We still feel very, very strongly in this team…we have a bunch of good players who are not performing up to their potential right now, and that’s going to turn.”

There had been high expectations for the Sox coming into the 2026 season, but the team’s poor start has seen frustrations boil over for an ownership group that has been criticised in the past.

Henry, for example, was booed in 2023 by Sox fans after they finished bottom of the American League East in the 2022 season, with the franchise no longer deemed a priority.

A lack of investment and player trades have readily left Boston unable to compete with the likes of the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees or Toronto Blue Jays, leaving frustration to boil over.

The season is long in baseball, 162 games in fact, but no team is currently further behind in their division than the Sox, and faith is evidently in short supply for FSG.

It comes at a time when Liverpool supporters are also banding together to object the latest move to increase ticket prices for the next three years, with the ownership’s decision meeting fierce opposition.

There is also a growing demand for a decision to be made on Arne Slot‘s future to arrest the flailing form of a team that is significantly underperforming.
