The Cincinnati Reds have made a trade, acquiring right-handed pitching prospect Dusty Revis from the Seattle Mariners. Earlier today Cincinnati designated reliever Yosver Zulueta for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for free agent signee Pierce Johnson. Now Zulueta is on his way to join the Mariners organization in the trade for Revis.
Dusty Revis has not yet pitched in a professional game. The 22-year-old righty was selected by Seattle in the 11th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft back in July and did not take the mound after that. In college he pitched two years at Mars Hill in the South Atlantic Conference before transferring to Western Carolina for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
He made 29 starts while in college, with 15 of them coming in 2025. He pitched in another 18 games out of the bullpen. His ERA improved each year of his career, posting his best mark of 4.04 this past season. He threw 82.1 innings for Western Carolina in 2025 while giving up 73 hits, walking 31 batters, and striking out a career high 78. He also hit a career high 10 batters during the season. Revis throws his fastball in the mid-90’s and has touched 97 MPH. He will also throw a sweeper-type braking ball that is his best offering. His mechanics aren’t great and likely push him to the bullpen in the long run.
As for Yosver Zulueta, he’s now in the third organization in his career. After pitching in Cuba he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in June of 2019 and stayed with them until they designated him for assignment at the end of spring training in 2024. That’s when the Reds swooped in and claimed him off of waivers. He would debut in late June of 2024 and would go back-and-forth between Triple-A and MLB over the next two seasons. In his 19 games with the Reds between 2024 and 2025 he threw 23.2 innings with a 5.32 ERA, 11 walks, and he had 25 strikeouts. You can see his career stats here.
