Reds pitcher Nick Lodolo exits his rehab start early

Cincinnati Reds left-handed pitcher was on the mound tonight in Daytona as he was making a rehab start with the Single-A Tortugas at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. He was scheduled to throw 65 pitches in the game He was dominating the Jupiter hitters, holding them hitless through 2.2 innings where he hadn’t walked anyone and had struck out four. But on the third pitch against the third batter of the third inning he looked down at his hand and the manager and trainer came out to the mound for a brief second and then Lodolo walked off the mound after just 40 pitches thrown.

It’s tough not to speculate that the blister that had Nick Lodolo missing time showed back up given how the final pitch played out. Unfortunately Daytona could not get their video broadcast feed working, so there’s no video available of the outing or Lodolo’s reaction.

Eligible to return from the injured list on April 7th, that doesn’t seem like it’s going to be happening now.

Update: 7:50pm ET

The Reds have stated that Lodolo did indeed exit the start with a blister on his index finger.
