Relive the South African legend’s 5 best spells

With a total of 829 wickets under his name, Shaun Pollock is not only South Africa’s highest wicket-taker but is also the 8th highest wicket-taker in history

1. 7/87 vs Australia, Adelaide, 1998

After setting a humongous first innings score of 517 at the Adelaide Oval, Pollock’s career best figures helped the Proteas in bowling out the Aussies for a total of 350, which gave South Africa a 167-run lead.

2. 6/30 vs Sri Lanka, Cape Town, 2001

An incredible bowling display by Pollock helped South Africa in bowling out Sri Lanka for only 95 runs in the first innings.

3. 6/35 vs West Indies, East London, 1999

His best figures in the ODI format came against West Indies at the Buffalo Park in East London. Even though Pollock’s brilliant spell restricted West Indies to a score of 292/9 after 50 overs, the target of 293 proved to be too much for the Proteas as they lost the match by 42 runs.

4. 6/39 vs England, Trent Bridge, 2003

Pollock’s fantastic spell helped South Africa in bowling out England for only 118 runs in the second innings, setting up a target of 202 runs for the Proteas. Unfortunately, the English bowlers proved to be too good for the South African batsmen and bowled them out for only 131 runs to win the match by 70 runs.

5. 5/20 vs England, Johannesburg, 2000

After being bowled out for only 149 runs at the Wanderers stadium, Pollock came to South Africa’s rescue and his incredible 5-wicket haul helped the hosts in bowling out England for 111 runs. Against all odds, they went on to win the match by 38 runs.
