Rens/Buholz Into 60 Singles Final & Wachob/Kimball into 80s Final in Palm Beach Gardens on a Beautiful Winter Day

Draws are here (only accessible to those who have a USTA membership).

It was calmer and warmer today (temps are expected to reach mid-70s today) and the sky was blue, uninterrupted by clouds.

The tournament had only 6 courts available to it till after noon (there are 20 courts at the Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center but 12 were being used for league matches), so the 60s semis and 70s quarters took place at 9am with the 80s semis to follow.

Vicki Buholz beat Anna Zimmermann 2,3, but they had lots of good points… and Jenny Rens took out Ellen Markowitz 3,3…great points using the entire court and lots of drop shots, volleys and lobs.

In the 70s, all the quarters were won in straight sets. Una Davis, (6) upset Leslie Murveit (4) 62 63. Pat Purcell had a win a second set tiebreak to beat #8 Kathy Foulk 2,6, Bunnie Jackson beat Andrea Barnes and I beat Tina Karwasky.

Bunnie and I beat Barnes/Murveit 2,4, rallying from 1-4 down to win the second set. We will face Pat Purcell/Betsy Savitt in the final…they beat Karwasky/Foulk 1,5.

In 60 doubles, Markowitz/Sylvia Kodsi upset #2 seeded Kristen Charlton/Sue Kaleel 06 63 62 to reach the final against Rens/Buholz (who dispatched Mariana Hollman/Stacey Williams without dropping a game).

Sue Kimball (1) and Betty Wachob (2) advanced to the 80 singles final; Wachob had an easier time today than yesterday, beating unseeded Sharon Greene 1,1 while Kimball beat Brenda Carter 2,4. The 80 doubles round robin finishes tomorrow and then the top finishers will play for gold and the 2nd place finishers for bronze.

Tomorrow I. play Una Davis in the semis while Jackson plays Purcell. Buholz faces Rens in the 60 singles final and Kimball plays Wachob in the 80 singles final.

Below Terri Eggers and Heather Fiscalini just after they finished playing a tough consolation match, won in the match tiebreak by Fiscalini. Friends first…
