Report: Rasmus Andersson has been traded to the Boston Bruins

Everyone in Flames land was on high alert the last few days on the upcoming Rasmus Andersson trade. It sounds like we may have our answer here with some reporting coming out on social media tonight. Credit to DSB_Hockey and EmptyNettersPod.

The Boston Bruins started to appear in the Rasmus Andersson conversation a few days ago when it was rumoured that they offered defenceman Mason Lohrei and a 1st for an extended Andersson. Looks like they might have added to that and got the deal over the finish line.

The speculated deal that has been thrown around is defenceman Mason Lohrei, centre prospect Matt Poitras, and one of the four 1st round picks that Boston owns in the next two drafts (their own plus Toronto’s in 2026 and Florida’s in 2027) for an extended Rasmus Andersson.

Lohrei, who turns 25 today, is a 6’5″, 211 lbs defenceman who can contribute to the offensive zone but has had some defensive zone struggles. He has 19 points in 43 games this year and 65 points in 161 games in his career. He is signed through this year and next at an AAV of 3.2M, before becoming a restricted free agent (RFA).

Poitras, 21, had an interesting career path. He was rushed into the NHL in 2023-24 with Boston suffering injuries and actually played well, scoring 15 points in 33 games. In 2024-25, he split time in the NHL (11 points in 33 games) and the AHL (41 points in 40 games). In 2025-26, he has 20 points in 34 games in the AHL. The 5’11”, 180 lbs right shot centre fits a positional need for the Flames system and could see NHL minutes.

Andersson, 29, has reportedly extended with the Boston Bruins as part of this deal. He’s been a workhorse for the Flames this year, putting up 29 points in 47 games while playing over 24 minutes a night. His feisty personality should be a great fit on the Bruins.

We will have a lot more to dive into once this deal is official.
