Keeping top-quality products simple, lightweight and affordable has always been our goal. Rene Herse X-Light Butyl Tubes are made in Japan to our specifications. They weigh just 78 g. They are sized for a perfect fit with road tires between 23 and 32 mm. And they cost just $ 9.95.
The 48 mm valve is long enough for most rims (except high-profile rims). The fixed valve cores keep weight and cost down, plus there’s no need to worry about a slightly loose core leaking air. (Realistically, most of us don’t remove the valve cores on our butyl tubes.)
Why would you choose the X-Light Butyl Tube over our TPU tubes? It comes down to simple math. The butyl tube comes in at:
- A little more than twice the weight
- Less than a third the cost
Does the X-Light butyl tube roll as fast as our TPU tubes? Does it offer the same magic ride feel? Not quite, but if my choices came down to running either a supple tire or a TPU tube (rather than both), I’d choose the supple tire any day. As far as butyl tubes go, you won’t find any better than these. We’ve tested them for thousands of miles. In fact, they served as a benchmark during the development of our TPU tubes.
The X-Lights are lighter than most butyl tubes, yet their top-quality construction eliminates thin spots that can plague other lightweight butyl tubes. Quantities are limited, as this is just a trial run. If these tubes prove popular, we may expand the program to other sizes, too. Because having more choices is always good.
