Ricky Ponting Road‑Tests the First Nine at Country Club Tasmania’s New Championship Course

Country Club Tasmania is entering a bold new era, and the excitement kicked up another gear this month as local legend Ricky Ponting became the first person to play the initial nine completed holes of the resort’s brand‑new Championship Golf Course.

The $20 million redevelopment is reshaping the Prospect Vale property into one of Australia’s most ambitious golf precincts, with the full 18 holes scheduled to open in summer 2026–27. Sporting stars and VIP guests joined Ponting for the preview round, offering a tantalising glimpse of what’s coming.

As reported by Pulse Tasmania, Ponting, one of the official ambassadors for the course, was impressed.

“Playing the first nine holes for the very first time was just extraordinary,” Ponting said after stepping off the final green. “I can now visualise exactly what this magnificent facility is going to be.”

Designed by acclaimed architect Robin Gibson, the course embraces a parkland style that celebrates Tasmania’s natural contours – think mature trees, stone bridges, creeks and lakes all woven seamlessly through the layout. Ponting, a proud Launceston product and now official course ambassador, said it brings something genuinely new to the state’s golf offering.

Country Club Tasmania’s broader redevelopment also includes The Range, a modern golf‑entertainment precinct opened in 2026 and featuring Toptracer driving bays, an 18‑hole mini‑golf course and a lively clubhouse atmosphere. Together, the Range and the new Championship Course are set to redefine the resort as one of Australia’s most comprehensive golf destinations.

With the masterplan rolling out over the next few years, visitors can expect a seamless blend of golf, leisure, dining and entertainment – all just minutes from Launceston’s CBD.
