The Olympic spirit seems to have inspired the Indian cricket team, as Rinku Singh decided to take a bite of his best fielder medal after the T20I series between Sri Lanka and India on July 30, Tuesday. Rinku has shown outstanding fielding skills and remained consistent throughout the series.
Following the victory on Tuesday, the Indian cricket team’s fielding coach, T. Dilip, continued the tradition of awarding the medal. He presented it in the presence of the new coach, Gautam Gambhir, and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate. Rinku’s main competitors were Riyan Parag and Ravi Bishnoi. However, Rinku managed to outperform them and earned the medal, which was handed to him by ten Doeschate. The left-handed player was thrilled and quoted his popular phrase, “God’s Plan, Baby,” while Gambhir watched with a smile.
At the end of the video shared by BCCI, Rinku was seen doing the Olympic bite with his medal.
Although his fielding was impressive throughout the series, Rinku also did well with the ball. In the 19th over of the game, captain Suryakumar Yadav gave the ball to Rinku, who had to protect 9 runs from 12 balls.
Rinku faced Kusal Perera, who was on 46 at that time. The first ball was aimed directly at Perera, who managed to hit it but then missed the second ball, making it go high into the air. Rinku positioned himself well and caught the ball cleanly, while the camera showed a happy smile on coach Gambhir’s face, clearly satisfied with the result. Rinku then took the wicket of Ramesh Mendis to end the over successfully and bring India back into the game.
The match went to an extra over after Suryakumar took 2 wickets in the last over. The Indian captain then scored the winning runs in the extra over, while Sri Lanka managed to score only 2 runs.
