Rishabh Pant drops a massive revelation about not being retained by Delhi Capitals

Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who parted ways with Delhi Capitals to be in the IPL 2025 grand auction, hit back hard at the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who had recently asserted that the 27-year-old stumper left the Delhi Capitals because of issues concerning the retention fees. Pant, who had an association with DC in the IPL from the year 2016, was released by the franchise before the mega auction, which will be happening in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.

In talking videos that were released by Star Sports last week, Gavaskar stated that there are instances where players of Rishabh Pant’s caliber have parted ways with their franchises in order to know their actual worth in the auction.

“Delhi would undoubtedly wish to have Rishabh Pant in their fold. At times while retaining a player there is a discussion with the player as well as the franchise about the amount of remuneration envisaged. You would have noticed that some of the retained players of the franchise have fetched above what the top retention fee would have been. There could be some qualms on that score (retention fees).

“I have a feeling Delhi would certainly want back Pant too, for they lack a captain as well. If Rishabh Pant is not part of their setup, then they have to find another captain,” he went on.

Rather, he was quick to register his dissent and while referring to the footage which is now doing rounds over the internet, Pant said “I can surely say that money had nothing do with my retention. ”

Having missed the IPL 2023 season because of a road accident sustained a few wounds which took place on December 30th, 2022, he led DC in IPL 2024 and emergent as the franchise’s top run-scorer. Under his captaincy, DC was able only to reach the sixth spot in the points table and was unable to make it past the playoffs for a third consecutive year.

A number of former greats, fans, and cricket pundits are of the opinion that come IPL 2025 mega auction, Pant will be in very high demand and very likely he may surpass the record of Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc who holds the record of the most expensive player in the history of IPL auctions. The IPl 2024 auction saw srk’s KKR buy Starc for 24.75 crores and it will be very shocking at all if Pant is signed at 25 crores or above.
