Rishabh Pant Likely to Part Ways with Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant, India’s premier wicketkeeper-batter, is reportedly on the verge of parting ways with the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. As the retention deadline approaches on October 31, sources indicate that DC management has decided against retaining Pant due to concerns regarding his leadership in T20 cricket.

Rishabh Pant All Set to Part Ways with Delhi Capitals

According to a report from the Times of India, DC’s management is not fully convinced about Pant’s ability to lead the team in T20 formats. While Pant has expressed a desire to be involved in key decisions, including coaching appointments, there seems to be a lack of confidence in his T20 game.

A source close to the Delhi Capitals stated, “It wasn’t that they wanted to let him go but they were clear that they didn’t see him leading the side.” This decision appears to have been well-considered rather than impulsive.

With Pant’s departure looming, DC may explore various captaincy options during the mega auction. Axar Patel is mentioned as a potential candidate, but there are strong indications that the franchise might look for new leadership altogether. Former captain Shreyas Iyer could be on their radar, given his successful history with the team. The management is keen on building a robust squad around a fresh leadership structure.

Which Franchises are Interested in Pant?

If Rishabh Pant enters the IPL auction, it is expected to trigger significant bidding activity. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra noted that while Pant’s T20 statistics may not be stellar, his reputation as a keeper-batter will attract multiple franchises.

“I can give you in writing that the bank would be broken if his name comes in the auction,” Chopra remarked during a recent discussion on his YouTube channel.

Several franchises are likely to vie for Pant’s services if he becomes available. Teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are all in need of a quality keeper-batter. Even Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) could show interest depending on their retention strategies. Chopra emphasized that nearly every team, except Rajasthan Royals, would be interested in acquiring Pant.
