Rishabh Pant dismissed in weird way

Pant’s dismissal was a crucial moment in the match. Facing Maharaj, Rishabh Pant attempted a sweep shot to a full delivery just outside off. However, he mistimed it, hitting the ball with the cue end of the bat. The ball lobbed up softly and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, positioned behind the stumps, took an easy catch. Pant’s sheepish look and South Africa’s immediate appeal confirmed his fate. He departed for a duck, following Rohit Sharma, who was also dismissed while attempting a sweep. This double blow gave South Africa a dream start, putting India under significant pressure early in the innings

Captains at the toss

Rohit Sharma explained their decision, highlighting the good pitch conditions and their previous high-scoring game at the venue. He emphasized the importance of understanding individual roles, staying calm, and treating the match like any other international game. India decided to go unchanged with their lineup.

Rohit Sharma: We’re going to bat first, looks a good pitch. We’ve played one game here, the scores have been really good. Just about understanding individual roles, it’s important to remain calm and play it like it’s another international game against a good team. We’re going unchanged.

South African captain Aiden Markram mentioned that they would have preferred to bat first as well, noting the dry pitch conditions. He expressed confidence in their bowling attack getting the first opportunity to make an impact. Markram acknowledged that their performance hasn’t always been perfect, but they managed to reach the final. He emphasized that there is no pressure on the South African team as this is their first final, and they aim to enjoy the experience. South Africa also decided to stick with the same team.

Aiden Markram: Would’ve batted first as well, looks very dry. But we get first crack with the ball so hopefully we can do well. At times we haven’t been at our best but we’ve still managed to win. We want to be as close as possible to perfect. There’s absolutely no pressure on us, we’ve never been in a final and we just want to enjoy it. Same team for us.
