World-renowned trainer Robert Garcia has given his thoughts on a potential fight between Devin Haney and Conor Benn.
With Benn set to come down to welterweight, a fight for Haney’s WBO world title seems possible.
Haney was last in action on November 22nd as the chief support bout to David Benavidez vs Anthony Yarde.
‘The Dream’ dropped Brian Norman Jr in the second round and cruised to a dominant points win over the heavy-hitting prospect.
Coach Robert Garcia spoke to ESNEWS on the contest.
“Man, I think Devin Haney but Conor Benn is tough man. He’s a tough dude.
“He’s a warrior.
“He has a big heart but I think Devin Haney’s skills are a little bit better than him so I think Devin Haney pulls it off.”
Haney became a three-weight world champion and spoke to the media about a possible fight with Benn.
‘The Destroyer’s’, last fight took place the week before at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He redeemed his loss in April to Chris Eubank Jr, dominating ’Next Gen’ over 12 rounds, winning every round on many people’s scorecards.
Garcia gave his thoughts on Benn’s win in the rematch.
“Conor Benn’s a tough dude man. Tough dude. He had a f**king great win. He lost the first one and now he came back and won. Very impressive.”
Benn took to social media after Haney’s win over Norman Jr and wasn’t impressed.
“You keep worrying about my achievements @Realdevinhaney, @BillHaney77.
“The reality is you put people to sleep.
“I’ll see you soon and i guarantee I’ll staple you to the floor.”
At the WBC convention in Thailand, Benn became their number one mandatory challenger for Mario Barrios’ world title so a fight with Haney may have to wait.
It has been heavily rumoured that Barrios will defend his title in February against Haney’s arch-rival Ryan Garcia who revealed a contract had been signed.
Benn may wait for the winner of that contest, but is currently sitting in a great spot, as he drops back down to his natural weight class following two tough fights at middleweight over the past 12 months.
