The Houston Rockets have agreed to a two-year contract with guard JD Davison and will promote him to the standard roster, according to his agent Corey Marcum via ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The second year will be a team option, per Varun Shankar.
Davison, who previously spent three seasons with Boston, has appeared in a career-high 27 games this season but in a limited role, averaging 2.2 points and 1.0 assist in 7.1 minutes.
Although he only played in 27 games, Davison had been active for 23 more, reaching the 50-game limit for two-way players, which made him ineligible to play again this season without a promotion.
The Rockets had also used all 90 of their “under-15” games, the limit for using two-way players while carrying fewer than 15 standard contracts.
By moving Davison to the main roster, Houston clears both restrictions.
He is now eligible for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs, while the team can continue using its other two-way players, Tristen Newton and Isaiah Crawford, if needed.
