Almost four years after retiring from professional tennis, records continue to roll in for Roger Federer, who has now become the latest addition to the Forbes World’s Billionaires List. The Swiss icon officially joined the list in 2026, becoming the only tennis player and one of a handful of athletes to reach billionaire status. The exclusive club also includes sporting icons such as LeBron James and Tiger Woods.
Business Success Beyond Tennis
Although Federer earned around a remarkable $130 million in prize money during his legendary playing career, the majority of his wealth has come from the powerful business empire he built away from the court.
Alongside his longtime agent Tony Godsick, Federer co-founded Team8, an agency that now manages several prominent tennis stars. The pair also helped launch the Laver Cup, which has grown into one of the most recognizable events in professional tennis.
Major Sponsorships and Investments
Two of Federer’s largest revenue streams have come from major sponsorships and investments. His partnership with Uniqlo, which he signed after being let go by Nike, is widely reported to be worth nine figures, making it one of the most lucrative endorsement deals ever signed by a tennis player.
Federer also owns a stake in the Swiss sportswear brand On. Through the brand, he has played a role in bringing tennis stars such as Iga Swiatek and Ben Shelton into apparel sponsorships.
Setting the Commercial Standard in Tennis
All of this success, both on and off the court, has cemented Federer’s place as the most commercially successful tennis player of all time. Later this year, the Swiss legend is also expected to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, further recognizing a career that reshaped the sport.
Federer’s financial success has raised the commercial ceiling for tennis players worldwide, setting a benchmark that once seemed impossible to reach.
