Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will continue in the BCCI Elite A+ contract despite announcing Test retirement. Both veteran cricketers had recently delivered a shocker to depart from their duties in the white jerseys. So let’s look at Rohit and Virat To Continue in A+ Category.
Rohit And Virat Still In BCCI A+ Contract
Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this month, and days later, amidst all rumors, Virat Kohli had also decided to bid farewell to the longest form of cricket. The duo had retired from T20Is after India’s triumph in the ICC T20I World Cup in 2024.
However, despite stepping down from their duties in the red-ball cricket, both veterans will continue in the A+ category of the BCCI contract. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, confirmed both cricketers’ continuation in the elite list of the BCCI contract and will benefit from the A+ category.
In Test cricket, Rohit Sharma has made 4301 runs, having played in 67 matches. The former captain had registered 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries in his Test career. On the other hand, with only 770 runs remaining to contribute 10,000 to his Test career, Virat Kohli ended his Test career on 9230 runs. Representing India in 123 Test matches, Virat Kohli has made 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries.
ROKO T20I Career
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepped down from T20I duties after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were significant contributors to the tournament. While Rohit Sharma was the lead run-scorer for India, Virat Kohli had put India’s struggling innings back on track with his contribution in the final.
Rohit Sharma, leading the list of most runs in T20I, had scored 4231 runs in 159 matches with an average of 32.05 in his T20I career (2007-2024). On the other hand, Virat Kohli is third on the list of most runs in T20Is. In his T20I career(2010-2024), Virat had lodged 4188 runs in 125 matches with an average of 48.69.
Although both cricketers are now retired from the Test and T20Is, both will continue to contribute in the ODIs. Hopefully, they will feature in the ICC ODI World Cup 2027.
