On the eve of the first Test of the three-match Test series against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma said that pacer Jasprit Bumrah has always been the part of leadership group. Rohit gave a response to the rumours of him skipping the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at Perth Stadium and Bumrah playing the part in leading the team in his absence.
Rohit Sharma was without a deputy in the two-Test series against Bangladesh. Bumrah getting named as vice-captain may be indicating that he will lead the team in absence of Rohit for the 1st Test in Perth.
“Look, Bumrah has played a lot of cricket. I’ve played a lot of cricket with him. He understands the game pretty well. He’s got a good head on his shoulder. When you talk to him, he understands the game. When you are in a situation where you need a leader to step up, I think Bumrah will be one of them,” Rohit said in the pre-match press conference
