Team India is scheduled to play 10 Test matches till the end of the year, however they haven’t played a single Test since March 2024 when they faced England in the 5-match series at home soil. Even then, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal jumped one spot each in the latest ICC Test batter rankings.
Captain Rohit is the highest-ranked batter among the 3, at fifth position with 751 rating points, while Jaiswal and Kohli remain close to him at sixth and seventh places respectively and with 740 and 737 points.
The Indian batting trio will have a chance to reach even higher positions in the ranking when they will play the first Test of the 2-match series against Bangladesh in Chennai on September 19.
On the other hand, England batter Harry Brook dropped down 7 places a 12th after his failures against Sri Lanka at the Kennington Oval in London. Brook was only able to score a total of 22 runs in the Test match which saw England get comprehensively beaten by Sri Lanka.
Despite recent failures in the format, Babar Azam has gotten closer to entering the top 10. He currently sits at 11th place with 712 points only behind his teammate Mohammad Rizwan who currently sits at 10th.
Joe Root remains as the top Test batter with 899 points followed by the New Zealand duo of Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell with 859 and 768 points respectively.
