The second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024 between India and England began evenly in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. The game was stopped several times due to rain after England chose to let India start by bowling at Providence Stadium.
Reece Topley started brilliantly for the defending champions by taking Virat Kohli’s wicket, and Jofra Archer got rid of Rishabh Pant in the final over of the powerplay.
However, India stayed competitive as Rohit Sharma, who was in good form, helped India reach over 100 runs by scoring another fifty on his own.
Rohit hit 57 runs from 39 balls, including two big hits over the fence and six hits to the boundary, before getting out to Adil Rashid in the 14th over. After hitting his fifth boundary of the match, Rohit broke the record of the famous Sri Lankan player Mahela Jayawardene for the most boundary hits in T20 World Cup history.
Jayawardene had held the record for ten years, with 111 boundary hits in 31 innings of the T20 World Cup. India’s Virat Kohli is also close to Jayawardene’s record, with 105 boundary hits in 32 innings.
