Indian team leader Rohit Sharma set a new record for the most wins as a captain in T20 international matches after his team’s big victory against England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian team, known as the Men in Blue, defeated England by 68 runs on June 27 at Providence Stadium in Guyana. This win helped them reach the final of an ICC event for the third time in a row.
India started by batting first and scored a decent 171/7 in their 20 overs. England, trying to chase this score, were all out for only 103 runs in 16.4 overs. After India’s victory, Rohit Sharma reached his 49th win as a T20I captain, surpassing Pakistan’s Babar Azam.
Babar has 48 wins in T20Is from 85 games, with a win rate of 56.47%. In contrast, Rohit has 49 wins from 61 games, with a win rate of 78.68%. The Indian captain has been performing well in the current tournament, ranking third in runs scored so far.
As an opening batsman, Rohit has scored 248 runs in seven innings, averaging 41.33 and a strike rate of 155.97, including three half-centuries. The 35-year-old has been excellent with the bat, scoring freely regardless of the playing conditions.
The Indian captain started the competition by hitting a fantastic 52 runs off just 37 balls against Ireland. He then scored an amazing 92 runs in 41 balls against Australia and later got 57 runs off 39 balls against England.
The 35-year-old player has now become the second-best run scorer in the history of the T20 World Cup. He has scored 1211 runs in 43 innings, averaging 35.61 runs per innings and hitting the ball at a rate of 132.78 runs per 100 balls.
