The Indian cricket team is going to make two big changes in their Playing XI for the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The visitors are at a situation where they must win this match if they want to secure their place in the World Test Championship (WTC) finals.

According to a report by Indian Express, Rohit Sharma has decided to stay out of the game. Jasprit Bumrah is going to lead the team for the second time in this series. The 31-year-old had already once captained the team to their one-and-only victory in this tour, which came in the first Test in Perth by a margin of 295 runs.

Shubman Gill is going to return to the playing XI for the Sydney Test, along with KL Rahul going to open the batting once again.

Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s place had come under the radar after a risky shot that he played in Melbourne, however, Pant will keep his spot in the playing XI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

The same report claims Prasidh Krishna will be replacing Akash Deep in the playing XI. Gambhir had earlier confirmed in the pre-match conference that Akash had been ruled out of the series due to a back injury.

The SCG Test is going to mark Pradish’s firs outing for India in any format since last year’s New Year Test against South Africa. Prasidh Krishna made his debut for India in 2023 during the Boxing-Day Test in Centurion versus the Proteas.
