As India prepares to face South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been showered with praise from South African cricketers Keshav Maharaj, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada. The Proteas stars have acknowledged Rohit’s stellar leadership and impactful batting, which have played a significant role in India’s undefeated run to the final.
In a video released by Star Sports, Maharaj expressed his admiration for Rohit, highlighting his fearless batting and exceptional leadership skills. “I have always been a huge fan of Rohit Sharma. From a batting perspective, he is fearless. From a leadership perspective, you can see he reads the game very well. He finds a way to bring everyone together and make everyone feel comfortable. His tactfulness on the field to approach each character and bring out the best in them is something that stands out for me,” Maharaj said.
Rohit has amassed 248 runs in the tournament so far, with crucial half-centuries against Australia and England. His performance has been a cornerstone of India’s success, and his ability to lead by example has not gone unnoticed by his opponents.
Klaasen lauded Rohit’s cricket acumen and his bold decision-making as a captain. He also noted Rohit’s knack for challenging players’ egos and expressed a desire to discuss cricket strategy with him in the future. “I think he has got an unbelievable cricket brain. Very gutsy. He makes a lot of brave calls as a captain. He does play on your ego a lot. I’d like to have a conversation about how he thinks,” Klaasen said. Jokingly, Klaasen added, “He is a special cricketer. When he is in form, there’s not a lot of bowlers who can bowl at him. Hopefully, he won’t be in form against us in the final.”
David Miller and Kagiso Rabada also praised Rohit, with Rabada describing the Indian captain as very chilled. This sentiment underscores Rohit’s ability to remain calm under pressure, a quality that has been pivotal in guiding his team through high-stakes matches.
As the final approaches, the spotlight will be on Rohit Sharma to see if he can lead India to break their 13-year ICC title drought. The match promises to be an exciting showdown between two formidable teams, with Rohit’s leadership and batting form likely to be crucial in determining the outcome.
