Rohit Sharma no longer interested in playing cricket, alleges ex-cricketer

Rohit Sharma has been one of the greats in white-ball cricket, but his IPL records in the past few years don’t tell about his legacy in the T20s.

Former Indian pacer Atul Wassan stated that Rohit Sharma has won everything, including the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy, and has now retired from Test cricket. With all this, he lost his hunger, and that’s the reason for playing irrelevant shots in the match, felt the former cricketer.

Atul Wassan on Rohit Sharma’s poor run in IPL

Rohit doesn’t have a single 500+ runs season in the last decade, which tells us about the story of Rohit Sharma in the IPL. The only thing that hid Rohit’s poor form with the bat was his captaincy, and winning five IPL titles

Former Indian pacer Atul Wassan revealed that Rohit looks like he is disinterested in the game, and the lack of motivation has extinguished Rohit’s fire of Rohit.

“He seems to be a bit disinterested; the motivation, the fire in the belly, has satiated. He has won almost everything, from winning the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy to retiring from Test cricket. Hence, to motivate yourself to play at this level of cricket every day is a very tough task,” Wassan said during the tenth episode of Bails and Banter on the OTTplay app.

Wassan also added that it’s a tough task to motivate yourself at this stage when you’ve won everything, referring to Rohit.

“A player needs to have some sort of aim in the future; it could be the longevity and the legacy. No player wants to compromise on the reputation he/she has built and leave fans with bad memories, and this is something which should motivate them,” he added.

Atul Wassan believes Rohit Sharma will deliver in the playoffs

Atul Wassan believed that the best of Rohit is yet to come to the party in this season, and it will be a great opportunity to perform in the IPL playoffs.

Mumbai are already qualified for the playoffs and are searching for its first trophy without Rohit Sharma as skipper. Hardik Pandya faced a huge backlash from the fans when he took over as Mumbai’s captain.

Rohit has to deliver in the knock-out match as Mumbai will play the Eliminator in the Mullanpur stadium in Chandigarh on May 30.

Rohit Sharma’s underperformances

Rohit was seen off-colour in the previous season as well. In IPL 2024, Rohit scored 417 runs in 14 matches, but if we leave out the century against KKR, then it will look like an ordinary season for the opener like Rohit.

In IPL 2025, Rohit smashed three half-centuries in 13 matches and scored 329 runs at an average of 27.42. He has played the whole IPL season as an impact player.
