Following former Team India coach Rahul Dravid’s example, skipper Rohit Sharma also displayed a generous gesture by reportedly offering to forgo his INR 5 crore bonus prize money.

He intended to share it with the support staff who played a crucial role behind the scenes in securing India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory.

A staff member who traveled from Barbados to Delhi with the T20 World Cup champions praised Rohit Sharma, saying everyone should learn from the Indian skipper how to appreciate the support staff.

One of India’s support staff members said, “when the 125cr prize money was distributed, Rohit Sharma raised his voice and said ‘support staff shouldn’t get such less money’. He was even ready to relinquish his own bonus for us”.

Former Indian head coach Rahul Dravid was offered the same Rs 5 crore prize money as the Indian men’s cricket team members after their historic win in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.

However, according to a report, the 51-year-old declined the extra bonus and accepted the same Rs 2.5 crore as the rest of India’s coaching staff.

“Rahul wanted the same bonus money (Rs 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip, and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times on Wednesday.

Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid have undoubtedly set an example displaying sportsman spirit and loyalty towards the staff who are equally as deserving for the win.
