Rohit Sharma Reflects on the Defeat Stressing Over Team’s Consistency

The second T20 ended on a disappointing note for Team India. After the tied ending of the first ODI match, both teams were boosted up to make a difference in the second match. While stepping into this game, Team India started well but lost their flow in the midway. As a result of it, they faced a 32-run defeat to the host. After the disappointing game, skipper Rohit Sharma talked about it.

On the Disappointing Game:

After the first game, Team India was hungry to create differences in the second game. Even after starting off on a great note both in batting and bowling, they fumbled midway. In the first innings, Siraj gave a great start and the other bowlers kept the domination alive to some point but after that, they lost the flow.

A similar condition repeated in the batting in the second innings. After Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s dismissal, they shattered. Though Axar Patel added 44 runs that was not meant to be. The batters failed to execute their plans in front of the Sri Lankan batters.

After a heartbreaking defeat, Rohit Sharma said, “When you lose a game, everything hurts. It’s not just about those 10 overs. You have to play consistent cricket and we failed to do that today.”

Later he added, “Little disappointed but these things happen. You got to adapt what’s in front of you. With left-right, we felt it’ll be easier to rotate strike.”

Giving Credit to Vendersay and Reaction on Own Performances:

In this thrilling encounter, Jeffrey Vandersay’s performance was extraordinary. He singlehandedly troubled the entire Indian batting lineup. He ended the game securing 6 wickets in 33 runs. After the defeat, Rohit praised him and said, “Credit to Jeffrey, he got six wickets.”

In this game, Rohit Sharma scored his second half-century of this series. While opening the innings along with Shubman Gill, he completed his half-century in just 29 deliveries and played a knock of 64 runs in 44 balls.

While talking about this, the Indian skipper said, “The reason I got 65 is because of the way I batted. When I am batting like that, there’s a lot of risks taken. If you don’t cross the line, you always feel disappointed. I don’t want to compromise on my intent.”

Reflecting on the Surface:

After the defeat, Rohit Sharma reflected on the pitch’s nature. While talking about that, he said, “We understand nature of this surface, it gets really tough in the middle overs. You have to try to get as many as possible in the powerplay.”

Later he added, “We weren’t good enough. Don’t want to look too much into how we played. But there’ll be talks about our batting in the middle overs.”
