Rohit Sharma to Lead India in WTC 2025 and Champions Trophy

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that Rohit Sharma will continue to captain India in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) cycle and the Champions Trophy in 2025. Shah expressed confidence that under Rohit’s leadership, India will secure more International Cricket Council (ICC) titles next year.

Praising the Indian team’s efforts in their recent T20 World Cup victory in Barbados, Shah highlighted the significant contributions of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and coach Rahul Dravid. He recalled his previous support for Rohit’s captaincy and expressed joy at India’s successful campaign.

“On November 23, after winning 10 matches, we won hearts, but we were not able to win the Cup. I said in Rajkot that on June 29 we will win hearts, win the Cup, and hoist the flag in Barbados. And our captain hoisted it there,” Shah stated in a video shared by the BCCI.

Shah also mentioned that the disappointment from the 2023 ODI World Cup final loss served as motivation for the team, propelling them to victory in the T20 World Cup. “After this win, the upcoming ICC events — WTC final and the Champions Trophy, I am fully confident that our team, under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, will become champions,” he added.

Earlier in the year, Shah had publicly backed India to win the T20 World Cup, a prediction that came true when India defeated South Africa in the final on June 29 in Barbados, marking their second T20 World Cup win.
