Rohit Sharma under the bus for dropping a sitter against New Zealand

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has been bashed for the ineffective captaincy he has displayed in the three Test matches against New Zealand. In the current Test match the second being held in Pune, a few retired cricketers took a jab at Rohit and particularly his field settings as New Zealand started to accelerate their score by more than 300 runs on Day 2. On Day 3, Rohit faced some harsh criticism after he let a simple catch slip through his fingers in the morning.

The scene occurred on the second over of the day during Ravichandran Ashwin’s turn. It was a rather full ball bowled outside off stump which Glenn Phillips edged to first slip.

The ball passed through Rishabh Pant’s gloves and went towards the slip. Rohit, on the other hand, stood rooted to the spot while the ball sped past him. Ashwin was left with disbelief written all over his face when Rohit dropped an easy catch.

Meanwhile, spinners struck in quick succession as India wrapped up the New Zealand innings at 255 all out in their second innings during the third day of second test match on Saturday.

As it was, New Zealand extended their lead to 358 runs and with a victory target of 359 runs to chase on a worn out Pune pitch, it is certainly not an easy task.

At 198 for five, the Kiwis were in control until they lost their last five wickets for only 57 runs within an hour into the first session.

Off spinning Ravichandran Ashwin (2/97) and left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja (3/72) took the wickets for their side respectively
