India’s team leader, Rohit Sharma, had a special moment at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday when his parents joined in the fun of celebrating the T20 World Cup win. Mumbai was buzzing with excitement as lots of people came out to see the team’s big bus ride through the city to show off their win. Some fans even went up high in trees just to get a better look at their favorite players. The parade started at Marine Drive and ended at the Wankhede Stadium, with cheering fans all along the way. The stadium was full of people for a special event to honor the team, and the players’ friends and family were there too.

It was a touching moment when Rohit went to the special area where important guests sit at Wankhede Stadium to see his parents. His mom, Poornima, had even changed her doctor’s appointment to be there for the big celebration.

For Poornima, this was a very special moment she didn’t want to miss. She gave her son, the captain who won the World Cup, lots of kisses. That sweet moment became very popular on the internet.

At the celebration event, Rohit said the win was for everyone in the country.

“This trophy belongs to the whole nation. We want to give it to our fans, who have been waiting for 11 years, and also to all the players who have played for the country,” Rohit mentioned at the ceremony.

Additionally, Rohit praised the people at Wankhede Stadium and thanked them.

Mumbai always delivers a great welcome. We received a warm greeting. On behalf of the team, we want to express our gratitude to the supporters. I am extremely pleased and relieved,” Rohit mentioned at the event, “the right-handed batsman further added.

Shortly after Virat Kohli declared his exit from T20 Internationals, Rohit also decided to leave the shortest form of the game.

With 4231 runs in 159 matches, Rohit holds the top spot for the most runs in this format. He also holds the record for the highest number of centuries (five) in T20 Internationals. He has been part of two T20 World Cup victories: the first in 2007 as a player and the latest one in 2024 as the captain.
