Roma Line Up Contract Extensions for Two Veterans

Roma intend to lower their payroll, but that won’t affect the future of Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante, who are on the verge of re-upping their deals. They are under contract until 2027. The Giallorossi wish to finalize the extensions before the end of the campaign, Matteo Moretto reports (via SOSFanta).

The camps of the two players have struck an agreement in principle with the front office. Only the final greenlight by the ownership is missing before the signatures and announcements. The duo has been making about €3M in recent years, below their supposed internal cap, even with a small pay rise.

Mancini and Cristante had already played under Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta and have remained regulars after Roma hired the veteran coach. The defender transferred to the Eternal City for €24M in 2020, while the midfielder for €30M in 2019.

While the Giallorossi have decided to hold onto the duo, Paulo Dybala could be on his way out, while the negotiation with Lorenzo Pellegrini is ongoing. The former recently underwent knee surgery to remove a torn meniscus after dealing with soreness for about a month. Director Frederic Massara addressed him to Sky before the Genoa game (via Mediaset).

“His injury won’t affect his extension, as we’ve never spoken about his contract so far. It wouldn’t be correct to do it now. His absence doesn’t affect our strategies and our relationship with him.”

Our Take on Roma, Mancini, and Cristante

The latter would be a rotational piece rather than a cornerstone in an ideal situation, but they have been both durable and consistent, which shouldn’t be taken for granted. It’d be pretty surprising if Dybala ended up staying, all things considered, but it’s not over until it’s over with him.
