Rosemary Mair backs as New Zealand names experienced squad for the T20 WC

New Zealand team is going to get a huge boost following the return of fast bowler Rosemary Mair for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, as she suffered a back injury during the home Test series against England.

Mair has 18 wickets from 24 T20Is, which will hold a pace attack consisting of veteran bowlers like Lea Tahuhu, Jess Kerr, Hannah Rowe and Molly Penfold, with Bates and Brooke Halliday also being the options as fast-bowling all-rounders. Apart from this, the spin bowling comprises of Leigh Kasperek, Melie Kerr, Fran Jonas and Eden Carson.

This squad has come out to be a highly experienced squad, with the wicketkeeper-batter Izzy Gaze being the only player to not have played a T20 World Cup before.

“I’m really pleased with this squad; I think these are our best 15 players to adapt to what will likely be varied conditions,” New Zealand head coach Ben Sawyer said.

Soph (Devine) and Suze (Bates) have a lot of tournament experience ranging from World Cups to franchise leagues, hence we will certainly be in a big show to know what’s going to be an intense competition.

“Rosemary’s had an unfortunate run with injury over the past few months, and she’s worked hard to be fit for this tournament. She’s proved herself as one of our key pace options and we’re excited she’s returning.”
