ROUNDUP: A cricket cartoon! – by Tarutr Malhotra

ROUNDUP: A cricket cartoon! – by Tarutr Malhotra

Good morning!

I grew up with cartoons; Asterix and Obelix, Tintin, and – the best of the lot – Calvin & Hobbes. It was just a normal part of the day. Trying to put off some homework? Pick up a Garfield. Trying to act like an adult? Read the (comic section of) the newspaper. No, I’m not doodling and dozing off in class, I want to be a cartoonist.

Funnily enough, the only other section of the newspaper I read was the sports columns. Cricket, football, tennis, gymnastics, anything that they bothered to print, I bothered to read. Girls and academics weren’t important yet. As a 12-year old, my life revolved around jokes and games.

Weirdly, very few people seem to put those two concepts together, especially in cricket. Long-time readers will know that I worked with one of the very few cricket cartoonists last year when Satish Acharya ran a series of comics on our pages for a couple of months. And, today, one of the best football cartoonists in the world – David Squires – has blessed us with a set of great cricketing panels.

It’s awesome, but I want more. I’m not sure what I was trying to say when I started this nonsensical rant, but I think I’ve found a point. If you do cricket cartoons – or even just want to do cricket cartoons – get in touch? Either I will publish you, or I will find someone that will. And, we’ll try to get you paid.

I miss comics. Being an adult sucks.
