Ruturaj Gaikwad back in Top 10 T 20 rankings following his impressive performance in Zimbabwe

In the recent ICC T20I rankings that released on Wednesday July 10th, Ruturaj Gaikwad came back to the top 10 with ease having risen 13 places high. After he scored 77 runs that won the second T20I versus Zimbabwe held at Harare then he moved to the seventh position. Having been there before, Ruturaj managed to achieve his highest ever ranking since entering the top ten batsman list during December 2023.

Meanwhile, novice Abhishek Sharma stepped into the 75th spot in the ICC T20I Batting Rankings. His international bow at 23 years happened last Sunday in the second T20I, hitting a sensational century off 46 balls. For his first ever century registered in international cricket during his second match for the senior national team, Abhishek went on a six-hitting binge and smacked eight huge ones.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was not selected for the T20 World Cup team but his efforts earned him a place owing to merit in Australia where he scored an unbeaten 123 against them making this his debut century at this level while representing his team Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He was able to score half-centuries twice within two consecutive games. He scored 58 runs before scoring 123 against them.

As captain Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma have taken up the opening spot in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, Ruturaj has batted at No. 3. Since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired after winning the T20 World Cup, it is anticipated that Ruturaj will be part of the line-up of the shortest format of the game .

Meanwhile the top spot in the ICC T20I all-rounder rankings slipped from Hardik Pandya’s hands as Sri Lanka captain Wanindu Hasaranga took over. However, after winning the T20 World Cup, Hardik was rested for the Zimbabwe tour. Mumbai Indians’ captain is ready to lead the T20I team after Rohit’s departure from the shortest format of the game.
