His glory is even much bigger now. Sachin Tendulkar underlines big praise for team India’s blazing fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who was on fire recently in a five-match Test series with Australia. Bumrah again created an all-time record in this Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which was played across five venues in Australia from November 22, 2024, to January 5, 2025: having taken the total of 32 wickets in five matches-the highest that any bowler has taken in the series. Born in Ahmedabad in 1992, Bumrah made his debut for India in January 2018 in Test matches-in fact, he went on to smash several records during this long tour of Australia, lasting nearly two months but, unfortunately, not helping India win the series as it suffered a loss of a score line of 1-3.
Bumrah managed to secure the Player of the Series award on Sunday, which came after he recorded a tally of 32 wickets and 42 runs in the series. Bumrah is currently rated as the world’s Number One Test bowler by ICC.
Tendulkar wrote a post on X congratulating the Baggy Greens when they hammered India by 6 wickets in Sydney to win the fifth Test inside three days and become Border-Gavaskar Trophy winners after a decade. Tendulkar, in the same post, made a keen mention of Bumrah.
According to Tendulkar, who has played most matches and scored most runs in both Tests and ODIs, Bumrah is the best in the world.
“Commendable performance by Australia to come back from 0-1 down and win the series 3-1. Congratulations to them for winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Special mention to @Jaspritbumrah93. “Jas” is just the best in the world!” Tendulkar tweeted
Bumrah was able to take home the mantle of being the highest wicket-taker in a red-ball Test series away from India within three tours to Australia, as he inched past Kapil Dev, who was historically the country’s only holder of that claim. He is also the most successful Indian Test bowler in Australia. He has taken a total of 64 wickets within only 12 Tests so far Down Under.
In this light, Bumrah also broke Anil Kumble’s record, wherein he became the player with most Test wickets for India in SENA countries.
This included his 32 wickets in the most recent edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he equalled Harbhajan Singh’s tally of wickets in the tournament. In BGT, held in India in 2001, Harbhajan has also claimed 32 Australian batters across three matches.
