Sachin Tendulkar Steps In To Save ‘Pataudi Trophy’ Name For India-England Series

Sachin Tendulkar has reportedly asked both the BCCI and ECB to keep the Pataudi legacy connected to the India vs England Test series.

Earlier, the five-match Test series between India and England in England was called the Pataudi Trophy, named after former India captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, who had strong roots in both countries.

However, the ECB recently renamed the series as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, honouring James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar.

Now, as per a report in Cricbuzz, Tendulkar has personally spoken to officials from both boards and requested them to not completely remove the Pataudi connection. The report further states that Jay Shah, who is also the ICC chairman, has been involved in the discussions too.

Pataudi Connection May Stay Through Winner’s Medal

According to the report, the boards are now likely to keep the Pataudi name as part of the winner’s medal that will be presented to the winning captain. An unnamed ECB official was quoted saying:

“Yes, there is a confirmed plan to retain the Pataudi link in the England-India series.”

This change comes after backlash from cricket fans and historians who felt that the Pataudi name should not be erased from one of the oldest cricket rivalries.
