Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has been accused of misbehaving with the team’s white-ball coach, Gary Kirsten, during recent tours. According to Geo News, Afridi displayed rude behavior towards Kirsten, which has raised concerns within the team management. Salman Butt blasts the Pakistan team management over not handling the Shaheen Afridi situation better instead of complaining.
Additionally, Afridi’s conduct was reportedly disrespectful towards assistant coach Azhar Mahmood. These incidents have sparked discussions about the young cricketer’s attitude and professionalism, potentially impacting team dynamics and harmony. The reports highlight the need for addressing such issues to maintain a positive and respectful environment within the squad.
Salman Butt blasts the Pakistan management over Shaheen Afridi
Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt criticized the Pakistan team management’s handling of the situation involving star pacer Shaheen Afridi. Reports suggest that Afridi allegedly had a heated exchange with batting coach Mohammad Yousuf during their UK tour before the T20 World Cup.
“If the management thinks that Shaheen was not implementing the plans and was not cooperating with them intentionally, then they should have taken action. If he was not disciplined, then they should have dropped him and opted to go with some other player.”
Salman Butt expressed disappointment over reports of Pakistan’s coaches complaining about the incident involving Shaheen Afridi to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Butt argued that instead of complaining, the coaches should have shown some backbone by dropping Afridi. Since they continued to play Afridi despite the incident, Butt believed the complaints were pointless.
“If you gave him full opportunity despite all these issues and are now complaining, I think anybody can do that. What’s the point of appointing [big names] with hefty salaries? Management’s job is not to complain but to take action.” He added.
PCB investigates the whole issue
The Pakistan Cricket Board is now investigating Shaheen Afridi’s bad behavior and why he was not reprimanded for the same.”The board is also probing players who have lobbies and the benefit that is being gained from it.”
“Sources have further said that the team’s coaches have complained to the PCB chairman about the non-seriousness of players and disciplinary violations in recent tours,” the source added.
After their below par run in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan cricket team still has not learned their lesson. Pakistan was dismissed from the T20 World Cup 2024 right after the group stage as they lost matches not only against India but also against the USA.
