Ten batters have previously hit two tons in a year, including Suryakumar Yadav (twice) and Rohit Sharma, but no batter has ever done it thrice. Samson’s three centuries have come since October when he hit his maiden T20I century against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.

Then, he scored his second consecutive hundred against South Africa in the first T20I in Durban before registering another in this fourth T20I of the same series. Samson remained unbeaten on 109* in 56 deliveries, including six fours and nine sixes, at a magnificent strike rate of 194.64, dismantling South Africa’s bowling attack on a flat deck and going into the record books.

Their knocks helped India post the second-highest total (283/1) in a T20I innings against a Full member side. Further, India hit a record 23 sixes in the innings, the most ever between two Full member teams, with the previous record of 22 sixes held by three teams.
Samson has made a habit of big scores, for it was his third century in five innings. While there were two ducks in between, he has made up for it by another scintillating century.
South African bowlers could do nothing amidst the carnage and saw them getting hit on almost every delivery. It was a record-breaking stand between the two most exciting batters, ensuring an easy victory for India.
