Sanju Samson Reflects on Career Highs and Challenges

In the cricket world, there is no shortage of talent. India has seen many talented wicketkeeper-batter. Sanju Samson is undoubtedly one of them. The Kerala-born cricket has shown his excellence in the game throughout the years. But his career at the international level has always been a matter of debate. His occasional selection sometimes offended fans. Samson stays hopeful about the future of his career.

In India, Sanju Samson is another talented wicketkeeper-batter. Even being consistent in the domestic circuit, his place in the national team always sparked debates. His appearances in the international stage have been inconsistent. He has been snubbed multiple times. Even after getting a chance, his inconsistent performance grabbed his attention. 

After being snubbed from India’s squad in the ODI World Cup, he made his place in the T20 World Cup squad this year. In that tournament, he failed to utilize the given chances. He also featured in the recently ended T20I series against Sri Lanka but he failed once more. He was dismissed on ducks.

Recently, he opened up on this. Sanju said, “The last 3-4 months have been the best of my career. Being part of the World Cup team is like a dream come true something I desired 3-4 years ago. My wish was to play in my last ODI World Cup. However, it was only after joining the team and winning the Twenty20 World Cup that I realized it wasn’t an easy task. But in the last series against Sri Lanka, I didn’t perform as expected.”

Samson on Getting Immense Support:

Despite those setbacks, Sanju always receives huge support in every parts of the world. In the IPL, Samson often makes batting look easy with his skillful strokes and timing. However, he struggles with pressure and shot selection in international matches. Despite this, fans continue to warmly support him and welcome him with enthusiasm.

Samson said, “The support I’ve received from people across the country, as well as from Malayalis all the way from New Zealand to the West Indies, is amazing. Other team members often say that wherever I go, I have incredible support. That’s why they feel disappointed when I don’t make it into the team or when I get out for a duck. I have the maturity to understand that.”
