John Cena wanted the future of professional wrestling showcased at his retirement show, tonight’s (Sat., Dec. 13, 2025) Saturday Night’s Main Event show at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. WWE leaned on their partnership with TNA to help do just that.
Indeed, Leon Slater was pulled from independent bookings to come to town for a team up with top NXT star Je’Von Evans fresh off challenging for the NXT championship just days ago. They squared up against current WWE World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Dragon Lee.
You won’t be surprised to learn they ran a sprint, and it was as much fun as you could ask for from every one of them. Styles and Lee sold like mad for the upstarts, earning “this is awesome” chants from the live crowd after the OG Cutter into the Swanton 450 from Slater. The pin was only broken up by Lee drop kicking Evans into Slater while he was pinning Styles.
There was an unfortunate spot late where Styles tripped on the ropes going for the Phenomenal Forearm, but he recovered soon after and pinned Slater following a Styles Clash.
Again, though, it was a good showcase for the young guns.
