Dwayne Peel’s side have claimed an impressive victory
The Scarlets upset to form book to thrash Glasgow 23-0 in a one-sided affair in Llanelli.
Dwayne Peel’s side didn’t have a single point to their name before welcoming the former champions to west Wales but put in a dominant performance to floor Glasgow. The Scarlets’ backline was full of absentees due to Wales’ clash with South Africa today but the Scarlets forwards took Franco Smith’s side to the cleaners.
Peel’s side are Wales’ only representatives in the Investec Champions Cup and if their forwards can front up like this when they host Bristol Bears next Saturday evening then stand a chance.
Josh Macleod and Macs Page claimed the Scarlets’ tries while Sam Costelow contributed 13 points from the kicking tee.
The Scarlets set-piece was a big weapon as the hosts won a scrum penalty before going to the corner which allowed Macloed to power over the line off the back of a well-worked driving lineout.
Costelow added the extras and the Scarlets continued to apply pressure. Another powerful scrum from the hosts yielded a penalty which gave Costelow a chance to add a further three points from the kicking tee.
The Scarlets pack continued to dominate with new signing Fletcher Anderson making some big inroads with his carrying game and after another powerful scrum Costelow extended the home side’s lead to 13-0 at the interval.
Peel’s side continued where they left off in the early stages of the second-half with a well-timed cross-kick from Costelow finding Tomi Lewis out wide.
The Scarlets wing flung the ball back inside which came off the hand of a Glasgow player before spilling loose for Page to score. Costelow added the extras before nailing another penalty shortly after.
The Scarlets were reduced to 14 men when replacement second-row Harvey Cuckson received a yellow card but the west Walians comfortably saw out the game to claim an impressive victory over Glasgow.
