Scotland Stuns Pakistan in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Warm-up

In a surprising turn of events, the Scotland Women’s cricket team delivered a stunning performance against Pakistan Women, winning by eight wickets in the opening warm-up match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. This result echoes the men’s team’s recent struggles against Scotland, marking a significant upset in women’s cricket.

Scotland’s Bowlers Shine

Batting first, Pakistan found themselves in early trouble at 33 for 4, struggling to cope with Scotland’s bowling attack. However, a resilient partnership between Muneeba Ali and Omaima Sohail helped stabilize their innings. Muneeba scored 27 runs off 22 balls, while Omaima contributed 30 runs from 29 deliveries, allowing Pakistan to post 132 runs for nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Scotland’s bowling was spearheaded by Kathryn Bryce, who claimed an impressive three wickets for 20 runs. Both Olivia Bell and Abtaha Maqsood also made significant contributions with two wickets each, effectively dismantling Pakistan’s batting order.

In response, Scotland’s innings got off to a flying start thanks to an explosive opening partnership between Sarah Bryce and Saskia Horley. The duo amassed a remarkable 73-run stand in just 11.3 overs. Horley scored 48 runs off 42 balls, hitting six boundaries before being dismissed by Nashra Sundhu.

Sarah Bryce continued the momentum, finishing the match unbeaten on 60 runs from 52 balls, including three fours and two sixes. With her steady performance, Scotland chased down the target with two overs to spare, concluding their innings at 133 for 2.

Sri Lanka Triumphs Over Bangladesh in Second Warm-Up Game 

In another warm-up match held simultaneously, Sri Lanka Women also secured a victory against Bangladesh Women, winning by 33 runs. Sri Lanka batted first and set a challenging total of 143 runs for seven wickets. Key contributions came from Hasini Perera, who scored 43 runs off 39 balls, and Nilakshi de Silva, who added 30 runs from 23 balls.

In reply, Bangladesh struggled to build partnerships and could only manage 110 runs for nine wickets. Their captain, Nigar Sultana, fought valiantly with an unbeaten score of 30 runs, but it was not enough to chase down the target. Sri Lanka’s bowlers were relentless, with standout performances from Sugandika Kumari, who took three wickets for just eight runs.
