Chonburi, Thailand – Hosts Thailand topple Vietnam to climb to the top of the rank charts upon the conclusion of Day 3 of the women’s beach volleyball competition of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
During Sunday morning’s session at Chonburi’s Jomtien Beach, Thailand secured a 2-0 card starting with Worapeerachayakorn/Naraphornrapat (THA1) outplaying D.T.M. Nga/M.H. Hanh (VIE1), 2-0 (23-21, 23-21). Soon after, Udomchavee/Numwong (THA2) secured another straight-sets win, defeating C.N.Lan/N.L.T.T. Vy (VIE2), 2-0 (21-18, 21-16). The hosts have maintained an unblemished record with three wins in the pocket.
Indonesia likewise took three full points against Singapore on Sunday morning. Desi/Nur Atika (INA1) defeated Chong E.H.H./Chan T.W. (SGP1), 2-0 (21-13, 21-7). The second teams took similar straight-sets results with Josephine/Bernadette Shella (INA2) winning 2-0 (21-12, 21-15) over Lee X.E.V./Ang H.Y. (SGP2).
The Philippines secured a 2-0 card as well, as they defeated Malaysia. Rondina/Pons(PHI1) won 2-0 (21-5, 21-10) over Aina/Aishah (MAS1), as Rodriguez/Villapando (PHI2) followed through with another 2-0 victory (21-10, 21-12) against Tasha/Auni (MAS2).
With Sunday’s results, the Philippines are now ranked second with Vietnam falling to third place.
The competition’s single round-robin format continues until Thursday, December 18, to determine the top four teams to head on to the medal matches on Friday, December 19.
