LAS VEGAS — WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora is officially set to return to the ring to defend his 154-pound crown against former unified world champion Keith “One Time” Thurman, headlining a PBC Pay-Per-View event on Prime Video on Saturday, March 28, live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The highly anticipated showdown was originally scheduled for October before Fundora was forced to withdraw due to a hand contusion suffered in sparring. With the champion now fully healthy, the bout promises a compelling clash of styles and a true crossroads moment at the elite level of the super welterweight division.
Fundora enters the fight looking to further solidify his place atop one of boxing’s deepest weight classes, while Thurman aims to make history by capturing a world title in a second division — a victory that would significantly bolster his Hall of Fame credentials.
Pre-sale tickets are available now through AXS.com with the code PBC, with the public on-sale beginning Thursday, February 5 at 10 a.m. PT. The event will be available for purchase on Prime Video, regardless of Prime membership, as well as through traditional cable and satellite providers and PPV.com. The card is promoted by TGB Promotions and Sampson Boxing.
“Sebastian Fundora is can’t-miss action every time he steps into the ring, and he’s highly motivated to put on a show yet again against one of this era’s premier champions in Keith Thurman,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Fundora and Thurman have been gearing up to square off for months, and now they’ll finally go toe-to-toe on March 28 in Las Vegas. The winner will be in pole position to claim the throne as the super welterweight king.”
Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing echoed the sentiment, adding, “Sebastian is 100% ready to return to the ring. This is a tough fight, and he doesn’t underestimate any opponent, especially not a great former champion like Keith Thurman. I’m looking forward to another exciting performance as he continues to establish himself as the best super welterweight in the world.”
Fundora vs. Thurman: Championship Stakes at 154 Pounds
The main event will see Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) making the third defense of his WBC Super Welterweight World Championship in a scheduled 12-round bout against Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs).
Fundora rose to the top of the division by defeating Tim Tszyu via decision in 2024 in one of the bloodiest fights of the year, capturing both the WBC and WBO titles. He followed that performance with a knockout victory over Chordale Booker, before facing Tszyu again in a July rematch where he dropped the Australian star in the opening round and forced a stoppage after seven rounds. The towering Coachella, California native has built a reputation for relentless pressure and durability, with his lone career setback coming against Brian Mendoza in 2023.
Standing nearly 6-foot-6, Fundora is trained by his father Freddy Fundora alongside his younger sister Gabriela Fundora, the undisputed flyweight world champion. The Fundora siblings made history as the first brother and sister to simultaneously hold world titles.
“Camp is going great,” Fundora said. “Saturday, March 28 is going to be an exciting night for boxing fans with Sebastian ‘The Towering Inferno’ Fundora taking over Las Vegas once again.”
Thurman, a Clearwater, Florida native, brings one of the strongest résumés of his generation into the ring. A former unified welterweight world champion, he holds notable victories over Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia, and Robert Guerrero, including a rare unification bout win against Garcia. His only professional loss came in a razor-thin decision against Manny Pacquiao in their 2019 Fight of the Year contender.
After a long layoff, Thurman returned with a unanimous decision victory over Mario Barrios in 2022 and later stopped Brock Jarvis in three rounds last March. Now, he looks to reassert himself among boxing’s elite.
“I picked up my first pair of gloves 30 years ago, and somehow I’m still hungry for more,” Thurman said. “On March 28, I have the opportunity to become world champion again and write my comeback story. This is old school versus new school, and it’s a fight fans don’t want to miss.”
