Serena Williams made an appearance on Super Bowl Sunday — in a 30-second advertisement for Ro’s GLP-1 weight loss medication. Williams advocated for Ro, citing that she recently lost 34 pounds.
“Thirty-four pounds down on GLP’s 1, (I’m) healthier on Ro,” the 44-year-old said in the spot. “Weight loss expertise I trust. I’m moving better on Ro; I’m feeling better on Ro. I’m Serena Williams. This is me on Ro.”
Beyond the screen, we may see Serena back on the tennis court.
It was revealed last fall that Williams’ name was on the list of players who are registered in the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s testing pool. In order to be eligible for official WTA and ITF competitions, professional tennis players must be tested for performance-enhancing drugs and all other substances that the International Tennis Federation bans. Retired players, of course, have no reason to be on that list.
On Monday, the ITIA website updated its list of reinstatements and indicated that Serena will have completed her six months of reentry in the anti-doping testing pool on February 22.
