It is probable that next month, veteran all-rounder Shakib-al-Hasan will be flying to the United Kingdom before making a comeback with the Test squad for the India tour. The former captain of Bangladesh would be playing for Surrey in a County Championship next month as efforts are underway to finalize the deal with the club before his team departs to India.
The match in the County Championship is expected to take place from September 9, in Taunton against Somerset. According to reports, Shakib, who is now in Pakistan, was given an NOC for that game by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
According to ESPN Cricinfo, if the agreement is confirmed, the experienced player who can both bat and bowl will join Surrey next month. After that, he will travel to Chennai where Bangladesh will face India in their first Test match on September 19. Bangladesh will then play two Test matches and three T20 matches against India before welcoming South Africa in October.
The President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Faruque Ahmed, mentioned that Shakib will still play for Bangladesh even though he received a legal notice from a lawyer at the highest court. This lawyer believes that Shakib should not be on the team because he has been connected to a murder case.
“Shakib will keep playing. We got a legal message asking us to bring him back, and we told them he will keep playing,” Ahmed said in a big Bengali newspaper called Prothom Alo on Tuesday.
“The FIR has been filed, and it’s just the beginning. There are many more steps to go through, and until he is found guilty, we will let him play. The Bangladesh team will travel to India after the Pakistan series, and we want him to play in that series too. He is under contract with us, and if needed, we will provide him with legal help,” he added.
Shakib was mentioned in a murder case in Bangladesh on August 22.
