Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto made a rare feat before a single ball of the match being bowled before the beginning of the first Test against India on September 19.

Shanto became the first captain in 42 years to have won the toss and opted to bowl first. In the history of the venue, captains have often chosen to bat first, but due to the pace-friendly conditions, Shanto took three seamers and decided to bowl first.

“I’ll like to bowl first. There’s moisture on the wicket and we want to make use of it. Pitch looks hard and there’s moisture. The first session will be very good for the seamers,” said Shanto after winning the toss.

Along with Shanto, Rohit also told about wanting to bowl first as well. Both captains decided to take three seamers in their lineup.

“I would have done that as well (bowl first). Little soft, the pitch. It’s going to be challenging conditions,” said Rohit at the coin toss.
